Why I Serve on Your City Council

Service to Something Larger than Self

My family and I recognize we are extremely fortunate to live in Benbrook. My career provides a significant sense of accomplishment and satisfaction yet I still crave the unique feeling of service to a larger cause that I experienced in the U.S. Air Force. I ask for your vote that I may continue to serve on your City Council.

The Best ideas come from outside, not inside City Hall

The greatest asset to our city is not those serving, but those they communicate with, our citizens. Those citizens moved to, and stay in Benbrook with a priority on Safety, Quality of Life, and Recreational Opportunities. I share these priorities and will continue to work to enhance them for all Benbrook citizens.

I have been asked why I have continued to go door to door during years I've had no opponent; the answer is simple, you and your neighbors. Benbrook residents have always been generous with their time and gracious to meet. Our discussions at household doorways provide an opportunity to inform and more importantly, to learn of ideas and/or difficulties of which the city might assist. I would like to thank so many of our neighbors who have provided terrific ideas and suggestions while speaking with me at their front door, these suggestions went directly to our outstanding city staff for implementation. If I have not spoken with you yet, I hope to soon.

Democracy cannot flourish without Transparency and Open Communications

Communication is critical. I recognize City Council Members are liaisons between citizens and your city government. Concerns, difficulties, and suggestions from Benbrook residents are vital. Transparency of your city government increases trust and understanding. The greater the transparency of city actions and the more we can foster communication between our citizens and city government directly impact the future potential of our wonderful city.

An important goal of my first candidacy was to increase our city government's transparency and communications. These were not simple talking points but items of importance. Today all City Council, Board, and Commission meetings are video recorded for T.V. and internet re-broadcast. City staff has established Facebook and Twitter accounts, a quarterly newsletter mailing, and continuously seeks new methods to further inform and seek inputs from our Customer.

Our city has made great strides improving transparency and communication, but we must always seek to do better. I will continue to assist, and continue to go door to door to directly garner your inputs.

Each Tax Dollar is the Property of Our Citizens

My belief is simple; all revenue garnered by the Benbrook government regardless of its original source is the property of our citizens. I will always view each hard-earned tax dollar with every citizen in mind and apply the absolute respect each deserves.

My Family and I Chose Benbrook

I traveled the world for 20 years as an enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force. My family and I met a diverse population and witnessed many cultures. My service in the U. S. Air Force was highlighted with the challenges and rewards of leadership and team building. With your Vote and confidence I look forward to utilizing the skills I took from those experiences as your City Councilman. When I retired from the military Benbrook was the first community my wife and I selected for ourselves- we made the right choice!

I ask for the honor of your vote for Benbrook City Council Place 5.

Thank you,
Jim Wilson
